To build a metropolis, players must invest in city betterments. To acquire these improvements, players must get the three new types of Trade Cards: Coinage, Paper, and Cloth. These cards can only be acquired by building a city next to mountain, forest, or pasture hexes. 2-4 Players, requires ownership of Settlers of Catan to play.

If you’ve bought the settlers of catan original game, I’m sure that you’ll fall in love with Cities and Knights of Catan expansion pack, if you buy this expansion pack then be prepared to spend more time to learn about the game, at the beginning you may have to stick with the manual to get the hang of it, but it’s worth it.

But once you get cracking, you’ll turn even more hopelessly hooked to the game. You get to build giant cathedrals which are twice the value of cities. You also get to fight the barbarian with your knights – which brings all the people playing the game to side WITH each other instead of AGAINST each other.

But I believe the elemental feature the Cities and Knights of Catan expansion are the new cards involved. When you draw a development card, you get the coolest choices such as looking at everyone’s cards and basically acquiring what you want… as well as other things… such as being able to hold up to 13 cards in your hands if you’ve the right amount of cities, etc.

Another great thing in this game is the merchant, which allows you a 2 for 1 trade which can be traveled just like the robber.

The Seafarers of Catan is an expansion pack of the Settlers of Catan board game to add three to four players (five to six player play is also possible with both of the respective five to six player expansions). What Seafearers of Catan offers is the addition of ships to the game, this way you can play between multiple islands. The expansion also offers a lot of unique scenarios, some of which have custom rules. The Seafarers rules and scenarios are also, for the most part, compatible with the Cities and Knights of Catan expansion.

It’s just great to have ships and be able to reroute. there are two ways to block, either the soldier or the pirate. It will take awhile with 5-6 people but it’s a lot of fun. The only problem is it does not go with building cards so you need the original game building cards to know what resources are required for building.

What The Seafarers of Catan offers is the addition of ships to the game, this way you can play between multiple islands. The Seafarers rules and scenarios are also, for the most part, compatible with the Cities and Knights of Catan expansion.

I must warn you that this game is very addictive – you can find yourserlf to play from lunch till 4am. and don’t be too foul when you play or it’s guaranteed to make you want to fight with the other players (which sometimes leads to a better game, and sometimes not).
Whenever we introduce this game to anyone, they too would like to buy it, so I’m pretty sure that It’s a must have for any real gamer.

The first edition of Settlers of Catan was first released back in 1996, the main idea is to populate the board game with settlements, to build settlements you need to collect different types of resources that will be determined when players roll of the dice.

You can also purchase what it called as “development cards” which provide the card holder with lots of advantages, to win the game you need to collect 10 victory points, that you can get through building settlements or purchasing certain development cards.

The newest edition is now easier to set up and tear down because now it’s using an interlocking tiles, the game is limited to four players but you can buy an expansion pack that will allow you to have up to 6 players, this is an ideal game for the entire family, which I think is the target market for this game in the first place, so I would highly recommend this fascinating board game.

Finally, a warning: devices like the robber, as well as certain strategies (e.g., blocking with roads) can make the game pretty cutthroat. In a competitive crowd, a player without thick skin might leave the table annoyed. Though very enjoyable in its own right, SoC isn’t a party game where laughs will smother out the soreness of losing. So be mindful of who you’re playing with, and play accordingly.

But don’t take the aforementioned criticism/warning too seriously. Play SoC a few times with friends or family and you’ll quickly see why Klaus Teuber’s game remains popular to this day.

The Settlers Of Catan is a very beautiful and challenging board game that will force you to use different strategies to get victory points, the most difficult part is to choose where to build your settlements, roads, and you have to be sure and precise in what you want to spend your resources on.

This game also offers a lot of interactions with other players by adding the ability to trade resources, you can work together with your friends or your opponents until you finally turn on them at the end to get your victory point, the game requires you to have at least 3 player, you also can play up to 6 player by purchasing the expansion pack.

The best thing about the Settlers of Catan is the ability to customize the board and changes with every new game, this way you can have a different strategy every time you play. I think this is a game that everyone should know how to play, the settlers of Catan is a very easy game to play, even a 10 year old can understand quickly how to play and the variety and complexity of the game will keep an adult to stay up all night long playing this fascinating board game.

The settlers of Catan game offers you unique and different game because you can actually rearrange the tiles to form the island of Catan,  it’s just a fun game to have so hurry up get yours today and feel the excitement living in the island of Catan.

It appears a bit simple at first (a 20 or so grid board with wooden play pieces) and the rules seem perplexed but once you master it, the game becomes a lot of fun.

It’s basically a board/table-top edition of a small part of a Civ game. You’ve a grid of plots that each have different terrain. That terrain interprets to a resource (i.e. a Forest gives you Wood, a Field gives you Grain, etc.). You place numbered disks on each plot which represent to numbers on a 2d6 roll (2-12, except for 7).

When that number comes up, any player with a settlement on the edge of the plot that has the number rolled gets a resource (in the form of cards in a deck). You can then take resources to build more settlements, cities and roads. You can also buy a card from the Development deck which is slanted towards one type of card unfortunately (the Knight) but some of the cards let you do stuff like buy something for less, steal resources from other players and the like.

There’s this robber concept where a robber sits on a desert plot and, when 7 is rolled, is moved by the player who rolled that 7. The robber cleans out anyone with more than 7 resource cards (you ditch half back to the deck) and then the player who rolled the 7 gets to take a card from a player adjacent to the plot where the robber is now located. Also, resources cannot be drawn from the plot the robber is on. It creates an interesting dynamic in the game and throws a nice curve into gameplay.

The ultimate destination is to get 10 victory points which you get by accepting settlements (1 VP), cities (2 VP), and any bonuses from the Development deck or by having the largest army (most knight cards above 3) or the longest contiguous road on the map.

You are able to make the game a bit better (in my opinion) by getting the Catan: Cities & Knights Expansion – New 4th Edition!!!!! expansion which evolves the game play a bit more.

Even though the wooden pieces are a little bit of retro, they’re still nicely made, the cards are so solid and not flimsy, and the game board is made of solid cardboard which is very good in terms of the contents of the box.
